I was sitting at the kitchen table the other day and heard some scratching in our fireplace. "Oh great", I thought, "an animal." Josh came home a few hours later and heard it too and right away said "Well, we have to get it out. Let's get a blanket!" A blanket?? Really? Here's how it went down:
Of course I was going to take pictures of THIS! So Josh opened up the fireplace and Gabe helped hold the blanket. Right....of COURSE this was going to work.....
Nope! The bird flew right out, covered in ashes, and headed straight for the window thinking it could escape. Ashes and feathers were flying everywhere. You should have seen the imprint of the bird on my window. If you've seen the Croods, you know the part when they take their "picture" by smacking a rock onto their bodies? Yeah, then you understand what I'm talking about. The best part was that the kids were squealing and laughing so hard and it made this the most entertaining thing that has happened in my home for a while!
This wasn't a small bird either. You can see my elliptical and the bird in comparison and it was huge!
Finally getting the bird caught in the blanket. Only that didn't last long. The bird got out and the kids were squealing that much harder! It was hysterical!
NOW, finally caught that sucker! It's beak was at least two inches long. Sorry for the blurry pictures - it was a little intense for a few minutes there! The bird wasn't hurt and we let it go outside but it did lose a few tail feathers which Gabe gladly gathered up.
The bird appeared grey and these feathers Gabe collected were black and orange so the only thing I could think of is that the bird was covered in so much ash that it appeared grey. I had pictures knocked off my window sill, feathers everywhere and ash scattered over the window and carpet but this was the funniest thing I've seen in a while! It definitely made all of our night better!
