Now that the Sochi 2014 Olympics are officially coming to a close, it's made me think about another group of elite "athletes" that day in and day out perform the same routines over and over. They struggle through the impossible tasks. They set daily goals with the ambition and determination of a woman P.M.Sing trying to get her hands on some chocolate. Now believe me, there are daily distractions as well - Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest- that may deter this group from achieving their goals, but if they are bound and determined enough, their chores will get done.
Yes, this group is Mothers. Mothers are strong, challenged daily, and determined to get too much done in too little time just to keep a functioning household. Some stay home. Some work out of the home. Some are married. Some single. Some have one kid, while others have ten. They multitask, balance emotions, and keep life moving fluidly all for the sake of their families. Mothers are loving, a shoulder to cry on even when all's they want to do is have a shoulder to cry on themselves. Mothers are amazing.
It got me thinking that Mothers should compete in their own Olympics. Here's a few events that would be wonderful to participate in.
1. Rubbing diaper cream on a squirmy baby without getting cream anywhere but the designated location.
2. Making it through the grocery store the fastest while bottle feeding the infant in the car seat while deterring the toddler from grabbing every item off the shelf.
3. Baking and frosting a cake without getting a single finger-streak through the finished product.
4. After making up a bed with clean sheets, who can keep it from getting tinkled on the longest.
5. Cleanly feeding an infant sweet potatoes and spaghetti with no residue left on the infant's cheeks.
6. Finishing the laundry.........period.
7. Managing to cook breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and dessert while keeping an impeccable kitchen throughout the day.
8. Talking on the phone for 30 minutes without a single distraction.
9. Wiping a runny nose while breastfeeding the baby and feeding yourself lunch.
10. Trying to catch a toddler who is now diaperless and decided to "go" on the bedroom floor.
The events could go on and on, but these are my daily Mom Olympic events. Any suggestions? Good luck and just remember, if you're a mother, you will always win GOLD!
